Ian Roome MP Addresses Lib Dem Conference Rally

Liberal Democrat MP for North Devon Ian Roome has spoken at Lib Dem Conference about the UK's support for Ukraine.

Appearing at the party's Conference launch rally in Bournemouth, Ian emphasised the party's strong support for Ukraine, and praised British people who had welcomed evacuated Ukrainian refugees into their homes, since the country's invasion by Russia in 2022.

He highlighted the case of a Ukrainian family hosted by local Lib Dem Councillor for Bickington, Helen Walker, and the sad news that a relative of the evacuated family had since been killed in the fighting on the frontline.

The Liberal Democrats have led calls for the UK to tighten sanctions on Russian oil & gas revenue to extend temporary visas for Ukrainian evacuees living in the UK, and for Britain to work in closer partnership with European allies on their shared Defence.

Ian Roome is one of eight Liberal Democrats who have served in the UK's Armed Forces, and now sits on the House of Commons Defence Select Committee.
