“Potholes Stopped Me Working”

18 Mar 2023

How one of Devon’s 20,000 potholes stopped a nurse from working and cost him £500

Nurse Graham was on his way to Barnstaple when an altercation with a pothole ripped apart the tyre on his car and injured his back.

“I was just driving along when I felt this enormous jolt as the car went into the pothole” said Graham “Then there was a searing pain in my back and I knew I was in trouble!”

Graham’s injured back stopped him from working, as well as damaging his car. “I really enjoy my job and caring for local people. It was so frustrating that something as basic like the neglect of our roads stopped me from caring for patients” he said.

Graham’s pothole was just one of the 20,000 unrepaired roads across Devon. We have been told that there is no money to fix them because the government has starved Devon County Council of cash for essential things like road repairs.

Third World Roads

“It’s a disgrace” said Lib Dem campaigner David Clayton. “We have shown the County Council how they could increase the pothole budget, but they have refused to do so.”

“We live in the sixth richest country on the planet, but we feel like we are driving on third world roads in some parts of Devon now”.

That’s why the local Lib Dems have set up a campaign to monitor all the potholes in North Devon and campaign for them to be fixed. Sign up to our pothole plan today!

Simply take a photo of an unrepaired pothole and follow this link to report it.
