In a letter to residents, Louisa York writes:
I am your Liberal Democrat candidate for Barnstaple Central Ward in the Town Council by-election on June 8th. With your support, I will speak up on the issues which matter to you to represent your best interests.
Being Barnstaple born and bred, I will work hard to help develop and deliver our heritage, cultural, environmental and civic services. I will lend time and support to local charitable causes and community groups to help develop and facilitate projects. I will stand up for your community rights and fight threats to reduce local services.
I am married to Keith and we have two sons aged 16 and 7. Our elder son is autistic and has a severe learning disability. My experiences of dealing with special educational needs services have led me to become a Trustee of the North Devon
Forum for Autistic Spectrum Conditions and ADHD. I am a Parent Governor responsible for inclusion at Newport Community School Primary Academy.
I am also a Parent Representative engaging with education, health and social care decision makers at Devon County Council to help improve services for disabled people.
At a time when cuts are threatening social care, mental health and acute hospital services, there is no better opportunity than to work with providers to help shape those services to ensure they fit current needs and comply with legislation.
Finally, in addition to my voluntary work, I run a childcare business for school-aged children.
I really look forward to representing you on Barnstaple Town Council and championing your interests.
