Kirsten Johnson

Kirsten makes North Devon history. She is the first woman to stand as the North Devon Westminster candidate for the Liberal Democrats.

Only the Liberal Democrats can beat the Conservatives in North Devon so Kirsten is poised to make North Devon history, as the first woman to represent the constituency in Parliament.

Kirsten was selected by the members of North Devon Liberal Democrats in June 2018. Like many local residents, Kirsten is an ‘incomer’, having married into North Devon.

Kirsten's mother-in-law grew up in Landkey, and her father was W.T.C. Buckingham: a farmer, County Councillor, and Chairman of the Liberal Party. Kirsten is very much at home amongst the North Devon community.

Kirsten is ideally suited to campaign on the issues that affect her constituents in North Devon. An experienced County Councillor, she knows how to get things done.  The Save Our Health Service campaign is supported by Kirsten. As Maternity Services at North Devon Hospital are again under threat and waiting times soar, Kirsten is determined that the ideologically driven Conservative austerity should be stopped. She is working with local groups and at Westminster to make sure that this happens.

Kirsten is keen to support our local agricultural industry through all the uncertainty created by the Conservative Government’s handling of Brexit. Kirsten is continuing the Liberal Democrat campaign to prevent the closure of RAF Chivenor near Braunton, working with local councillors and liaising with senior Liberal Democrats at Westminster.

Kirsten is campaigning hard to put an end to the drastic school cuts which have hit schools across N Devon. The current Conservative MP has failed to prevent these cuts, despite his election promise in 2017. Hear North Devon MP Peter Heaton Jones' pledge on school funding. She has visited many schools throughout the constituency, hearing the same message from Headteachers everywhere – Conservative school cuts need to end – our children’s futures depend upon it.
