Senior Lib Dem County Councillor Brian Greenslade will propose the motion. He said “there are real financial difficulties in Devon Schools harming the once in a life time chance of a good education for our children. Despite fine words from Ministers and Devon Tory MPs the reality is that Devon School children are funded at an average of £268pa less compared to the national average. It sticks in the throat that Government can simply whistle up an extra £50 million for Grammar Schools to satisfy their dogma while Devon Schools remain starved of fair funding!”.

Motion details.

“County Council expresses its concern at the Government’s announcement of an extra £50 million to allow existing Grammar Schools to extend their premises and take on more pupils while Devon Schools remain significantly underfunded compared to the national average.

Accordingly the County Council writes to all Devon MPs asking them to oppose this proposal in favour of providing more funding to Devon School’s.”
