Lib Dem Councillors across North Devon have urged caution over Conservative plans to cut black bin collections to once every three weeks.
Following fears raised by local residents, Lib Dems on North Devon Council led by group leader Brian Greenslade called for pilot studies to first fully test the changes to rubbish collections.
District Councillor Joy Cann explained: “Here in Yeo Valley there are many smaller homes, small flats, and parents with very young children, so reducing bin collections to three weekly is likely to be more of a problem.”
Cllr Ian Roome added: “We all want to promote recycling and fortunately North Devon Council has made this much easier over the last 10 years. Even batteries and some small household electrical items can now be put out for recycling!”
“But we need to be careful about how long we let black bin rubbish go uncollected for. The Pilot scheme will help scrutinise these plans.”
