Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon has taken up the Ilfracombe High Street Traders concerns with Devon County Council. He says 'Following a meeting with the High Street Traders it was quite clear that they have very real concerns about their future viability. In addition, the period of consultation is restricted to their busiest time of the year which inhibits their ability to effectively structure their opposition to the scheme.'

The Coalition government has announced new proposals regarding social housing in an attempt to clear the mounting backlog of those on waiting lists. Under the plans to end council house tenancies for life, tenants would have to relocate into the private sector if their household income improved significantly.
